EFT and Fear: How EFT Can Help You Overcome Fear

Fear comes in many colours: phobias, PTSD, fear of a particular person, place or thing. EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) can help control your fear or even release it completely.

When someone comes to an EFT practitioner with a phobia, we generally expect the phobia to be released completely in one to three sessions, depending on where the phobia originated. People are often astonished at how quickly their fears disappear, particularly when this has been a debilitating part of their lives for many years. The client is often asked "when did this start?" The answer is usually accompanied by a story about something that happened in which whatever the present day phobia was involved. After a few rounds of EFT, on the original trauma, the client is surprised to find that they are not afraid of whatever it was. In fact, sometimes they can't understand why they were afraid of it in the first place.

PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), on the other hand, is a deeply rooted fear involving flashbacks (in which the sufferer relives the original trauma or traumas) on a daily basis. This can either be one major event or many. Soldiers returning from theatres of war, for example, may relive not just one event but hundreds. The approach taken in this case is to teach the veteran to tap themselves, while also encouraging a course of EFT sessions with a skilled practitioner.

Where there are many events, the effect of tapping on several of them seems to generalise to all the others - as four or five of the events have the emotions released by EFT tapping, many of the others reduce in force, until after a number of them are reduced, quite often this will generalise over all of them. A peer reviewed published study by Dawson Church in the Journal of Traumatology in 2010 indicated that even brief exposure to EFT significantly reduced PTSD symptoms in war veterans.

Where the fear is of a more immediate nature, a skilled EFT practitioner can also help, not just with the present fear but also in preparing for future exposure to the feared object, experience or person. A few rounds of tapping can reduce the present fear to nothing. Then, using the "choices technique" or "ultimate truth" statement, the practitioner can help the client to prepare for any future exposure, reducing fearful anticipation, practicing for any unpleasant statements, smells, textures or sounds and reducing worry about what the next incident will include.

How to Use Tapping Techniques to Overcome Procrastination

Did you, know when you procrastinate it is costing you financially, mentally, physically and emotionally?

Also depending on what you are procrastinating on, whom or about. It can also have devastating consequences for your friends and family too. Think about it for a moment, what happens if you 'forget' to pay your taxes or mortgage payments? Your procrastination starts to affect more that you.

Procrastination in its simplest form is your own perceived fears and worries about future events. These future memories you build up and play over and over in your mind and body. It is the future pain which you think you'll experience that you are trying to avoid by not doing anything.

So how can tapping help you?

Firstly, most people are afraid of something or someone specific. It's too easy to say I'm afraid of success or I'm afraid of failing. That may be true, but it's is too easy, it's too global a statement.

It's better to answer the following: If I succeed what will happen to me then? Or, what pain am I avoiding by not finishing what I want doing?

You see procrastination is just you putting of a perceived future pain. Nothing more.

You can easily start tapping:

Even though I don't know what pain I'm avoiding I deeply and completely love forgive and accept myself anyway.

Even though I'm afraid of a future event that hasn't even happened yet, I accept all of me just the way I am.

Even I'm worried what will happen when I leave my own comfort zone. I accept all these conflicts within me.

What about your family and friends? If you succeed how will they react? This is a huge area that will on some level be holding you back.

How can tapping help you here?

Even though I'm afraid to earn more than my parents. I choose to let go of this belief as it no longer serves me.

Even though I'm afraid I'll be shouted at like was when I was a child because I was successful then and my father didn't like it.

Even though I'm afraid how my parents will react when I'm successful. After all they struggled all their lives and told me everything had to be difficult. I chose to let this belief to as it no longer supports me.

Even though my friends don't like rich and successfully people and I really want them to like me. I deeply and completely accept all of me.

Try these EFT tapping rounds for starters. You'll be amazed at what can happen if you tap on these several times.

The sense of calm, maybe a few aha moments, projects that don't seem so big and are much easier to start.

The Basics on How to Overcome Emotional Pain

We suffer from emotional pain for certain reasons. It is the result of painful experiences we encounter such as the death or loss of a loved one. It arises from woefulness or depression, disappointment, guilt, fear, anxiety and tends to become worse when traumatic events in the past are recapitulated.

A lot of people had experienced psychological trauma during their childhood due to such events like loss of parent/s, abandonment, abuse and neglect. Though these happened years ago, the pain still remains in the person who had experienced such problems. And in this case, the pain stays longer. Emotional pain during adulthood may be resulted by retrenchment or loss of employment, being a victim or a witness of a crime, end of a relationship, loss of a loved one, and abuse.

Generally, when intense trauma is experienced, the person is haunted by nightmares and recurring thoughts. Some who undergo from emotional pain experience difficulty in ceasing the memories of hurts and sorrows. They find it hard to set the pain free and often don't they realize that they are in a cycle of guilt and punishment.

Emotional pain is a counterpart for depression. People who experience depression are drowned with the feeling of hopelessness. Some don't have the strength to face the pain that is why they just hide it by denial or pretending that they are happy even they are not. Though they are sometimes obvious, these people actually need help to cope up.

It is not that easy to deal with your emotions as well as letting the pain go. But don't be afraid to show what you really feel. This can make you feel relieved and better. There are ways to overcome your emotional pain so don't let the pain defeat you.

1. Cry. Crying doesn't mean you're weak, it means you are brave enough to show your emotions. Let your tears burst. That's healthy. It cleanses the eyes and makes you feel better.

2. Talk to someone who understands you. Don't be afraid to tell what you want and just show who you are and what you feel. Talk to someone you trust and comfortable to talk to. They may be your friends, family or lover.

3. Entertain yourself. Don't just lie down or sit at one corner. Go out and let all your pain be erased even for a while. Watch a movie, eat all you can, try some sports and the like. If you find yourself enjoying, that will help you in coping through your emotional pain.

4. Keep a diary. Treat your diary as your best friend. Though it doesn't reply, it still helps in letting you express your emotions.

5. Pray. Let Him give you the strength and the peace of mind.

If these can't help, you can try these treatments or therapies.

- Spiritual therapy
- Meditation
- Counseling and psychotherapy
- Cognitive behavioral therapy

Using EFT to Overcome the Fear of Terrorism Following the Death of Osama Bin Laden

Along with feelings of relief and closure, Osama Bin Laden's death has also reignited the fear of terrorism for many people. Memories of the losses on September 9, 2001 have bounced back into people's minds as if it was just yesterday.

We all know how debilitating fear can be. What if there was a simple way of overcoming such fears? And not just of terrorism, but also the many common fears that prevent people from leading full and richly rewarding lives.

There is. You can start with a rational approach. Statistically, for a person in the US, the chance of being killed by a terrorist is extremely low. It is reportedly about the same as the chance of being hit by lightning. For some, a few deep breaths and a reminder of the statistics may sooth recently elevated fears. But the thought of terrorism can bring up deeper fears that are not easily soothed by logic.

Fortunately there is another option. More and more people are turning to a remarkable technique called EFT (the Emotional Freedom Techniques) to address fear, anger, anxiety and more. It's so effective that people like Deepak Chopra and Jack Canfield, co-creator of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, are heralding its benefits.

What is EFT and How Does it Work

Not familiar with EFT (the Emotional Freedom Techniques)? That's fine. The most important thing is to have an open mind, because it's unusual. This approach is unconventional and very rapid. It's not painful or invasive, so just about anyone can do it.

There is also a logical explanation for amazing effectiveness of EFT. It involves tapping on a short series of specific spots on the body that relate to the acupuncture meridian system. In theory, EFT tapping works by releasing blockages this system, bringing the recipient into an enjoyable state of wellbeing.

You don't have to understand any of this to experience relief with EFT. Results vary, but people commonly experience relief from debilitating fears as well as a wide range of other symptoms within minutes. EFT is so effective that a rapidly growing number of people are learning EFT for personal use, and in some cases, for use as EFT Practitioners.

Using EFT to Overcome Fear of Terrorism and More

Living habitually with fear can take the joy and adventure out of life. But now it's easier than ever to overcome fear. If you can tap with your fingers and repeat a few simple statements, you can do EFT. An investment of time learning EFT will pay for itself time and time again. Imagine the power of being emofree.
