EFT Healing of Emotional Trauma

What is Trauma - Towards a Definition

It is an emotional or bodily response or feeling associated with something that appears to be life threatening at the time, whether real or imagined, where we feel powerless to do anything about it. For a child this can even include perceived rejection since kids depend on others for survival at this young age. Trauma can spring from something as simple as being denied access to something that the child desires and feels is really important.

It can also arise as a result of being confused and bewildered - by not knowing how things work in the world. Basically, the bottom line is that if it feels life threatening or if basic security or survival needs are compromised the precipitating experience is internalized as trauma. This can stay in the body for life if a way isn't found to release it or if it remains undischarged.

Associated Events and Feelings

Along with that, at the time of the event, many other associated pieces of sensory information are stored which become associated with the traumatic event so that any piece of the whole can be triggered and produce an emotional reliving of the original trauma.

So for example, if you, as a small child, were happily playing in the garden and suddenly your mom shouted at you for getting mud on your shoes, you may end up associating 'garden' or 'shoes' with 'angry mom' or 'happily playing' with 'danger'. Later in life you may feel anxious or afraid to relax any time you want to 'play'.

Equally the subconscious may associate positive things together, so for example, if your mom gave you chocolate or cookies when she was in a good mood, you may come to associate a sense of connection and love with chocolate and cookies. Then later in life when you are feeling lonely and isolated for any reason you may find you can't stop yourself being 'driven' to eat the chocolate or the cookies to get back that feeling of love and connection

Now, even though we can recognise all of this with the conscious mind, the mind cannot change this kind of energy by thought alone.

The Role of EFT Therapy

EFT tapping gives us a way to connect with and discharge the trauma and all of its associated parts and associations, that have taken up residence mainly in the subconscious. EFT therapy can release any blockages in the energy associated with this internalized response. You can tap away your fears and any negative emotions and even the physically painful symptoms that can appear in relation to these. Relief is the result, along with an ability to reprogram ourselves in new more healthy ways. We become much more able to release any tendency to self-sabotage and to start moving more towards the dreams, goals and visions that we have for ourselves to create the kind of life we want - abundant and joyful.

EFT Emotional Freedom Technique Using Tapping As A Self Help Method

E.F.T. stands for "Emotional Freedom Techniques" which were developed by Gary Craig. This method of tapping was derived from the ancient practice of acupuncture. Basically, it is the tapping of meridian points on the body to restore energy balance which eliminates negative emotions.

Your body, like all else in the Universe, is composed of energy. "The cause of ALL negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system." This quote by Gary Craig, is the founding principal of meridian tapping. While tapping, focus on the negative event (a fear, problem, anxiety or what ever is bothering you) by reciting and verbalizing the memory. You tap five to seven times each, on nine of the bodies meridian points. The tapping of meridian energy points in concert with focusing on a problem brings the bodies energy back into balance.

The meridian points on the body are the top of the head, inside portion of the eyebrow, between the eye and temple, under the eye, between the nose and mouth, between the mouth and chin, on the point of the collarbone at the base of the throat and on your side below the arm. You can tap these points in any order. Tap each point five to seven times while verbalizing your problem statement then move on to the next point repeating the statement and continue moving on and repeating the statement until you have done so at all nine points. After completing all nine points, you will want to repeat the sequence twice more.

Your problem statement should be a short declaration of the problem followed by an affirmation of complete acceptance of yourself. An example of a person with a stress problem, their problem statement could be similar to this: "Even though I am suffering from stress, I completely and totally accept myself".

With a little bit of practice, you can perform this technique quickly and as many report, get amazing results. Since it is based on the ancient Chinese medicine, the concept of "Chi" and the bodies energy fields, the concept of tapping certainly has merit. Although some consider Tapping as unscientific, it is the power of your mind that can benefit your well-being. Any method that helps you to recognize, face and deal with an issue, puts you on the path to self-improvement.

An Inside Look at Emotional Freedom Technique

Gary Craig describes Emotional Freedom Technique as "A universal healing aid." I had the pleasure of meeting him at a lecture in Boulder, Colorado the summer of 2009.

Let's start with Craig's background.

"I was born April 13, 1940 and have been intensely interested in personal improvement via psychology since age 13. That was when I recognized that the quality of my thoughts was mirrored in the quality of my life. Since then I have been self taught in this field, seeking only those procedures that, in my opinion, produced results. EFT is my latest finding, the core of which I learned from Dr. Roger Callahan. For the average person, Callaghan's stuff was too complex."

Since Craig was educated at Stanford University as an engineer-and what engineers do is take things apart, see how they work, and try to make them work more efficiently-that is what he did with Callaghan's work, which is how EFT was born. Craig is also is an ordained minister and a certified Master Practitioner of NLP.

What exactly is EFT? According to Craig, "EFT is based on a new discovery about the body's subtle energies. Simply stated, it is an emotional version of acupuncture, except needles aren't necessary. Instead, you stimulate well established energy meridians on your body by tapping on them with your fingertips. The process is easy to memorize and is portable so you can do it anywhere. People who are persistent and tap frequently obtain dramatic results."

Craig went on to say, "We are conditioned in the U.S. to take a pill or have surgery to take care of problems. If we were raised in China, we would be more conditioned to working with the energy meridians and chakras. It's all in how we were conditioned. It doesn't have anything to do with the 'woo-woo factor'-it's just how it is in comparison to something else."

Craig added, "Humor is very important." It is therapeutic in and of itself. Humor helps you test how the work is going so far. Craig uses humor because that's his style. However, you don't have to have a sense of humor to do EFT.

EFT can be applied to many issues. During his Boulder seminar, Craig spoke about some different situations where he used EFT. He talked about Becky, a lady deathly afraid of rats. Even the thought of a rat anywhere in the vicinity made her hyperventilate. Craig sent a person out to find a rat and put it in a cage. After a short session of EFT, she was able to put her finger in the cage and pet the rat. Then there was David who had a strong fear of water. After some "tapping" (another name for EFT), David was not afraid of water.

"I didn't 'get' the connection between the emotional self and the physical self until I worked on people with major physical issues," Craig said specifically mentioning MS. He showed a number of videos and one highlighted a lady who suffered from MS, walked on crutches and was severally disabled. Craig worked with her using EFT. By the end of the session, the lady was able to walk without the crutches, and she did a few jumping jacks, something she hadn't been able to do for years.

Probably the most memorable videos were ones taken of military veterans who suffered Traumatic Stress Disorder (TSD). At his own expense, Craig brought these vets together so he could work on them using EFT. Their symptoms ran from depression, suicidal thoughts, hyper-vigilance to night terrors. In order to relieve the intense emotions he felt while working on these men, Craig did some tapping on himself. It was a very emotionally stirring experience for everyone at the presentation. Each of the men Craig worked with showed remarkable improvement.

Emotional Freedom Technique - A Core Tool in Rapid Enlightenment

Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT is a form of psychological acupressure which uses tapping of the fingertips on specific areas of the body to relieve the emotional trauma of past events, addictions, pain, etc - as well, EFT is used as a powerful addition to positive affirmations. Learning EFT takes less than a minute and its contribution to mental health and happiness is nothing less than astonishing. You need not take anyone's word for it. In minutes you can learn and see for yourself if EFT really works. If you love yourself, or want to, EFT is for you!

Authors note: The main, companion article to "Emotional Freedom Technique - A core tool in Rapid Enlightenment," is "Rapid Enlightenment - A rapid guide to lifelong happiness" which is the core article introducing the simple and powerful, three step process of Rapid Enlightenment (To Recognize, Remove, and Relearn) your way to lifelong happiness. EFT is just one of the three essential components to the practice of Rapid Enlightenment.

There are many online examples of techniques and uses for EFT and further exploration is highly recommended. Included below is a simple introduction and hypothetical example of EFT in action. From this example you can use your own mind and creativity to substitute any negative feeling, memory, belief or situation that has been interfering with your happiness. So here we go...

Janet is afraid of dogs and has been since the day she was badly bitten by a neighborhood dog when she was seven. Since that day this long standing memory has caused many panic attacks when she is around, or even thinks about dogs. She often goes blocks out of her way to avoid dogs and social situations where dogs might be present. She has behaved like this for the last twenty-five years.

Janet will use EFT on the long standing memory of being bitten by the neighbor's dog. The idea is to attack the source of the suffering, in this case, the initial traumatizing event. By doing so, all of the emotions that sprang from this past event will also be affected - similar to destroying a tree by cutting out the root, rather than cutting off the tree's branches.

Using all of the senses of her mind, Janet recalls the traumatizing event. In her mind she becomes that little girl - seeing and feeling everything that little girl felt. Instantly she becomes ill at ease. She takes an emotional severity rating of the memory, of how much the memory makes her suffer. She rates it a ten. The most severe it could be. Nevertheless, she is in a safe place and knows she is only recalling the memory and it is not actually happening.

With the memory in full bloom, she begins tapping with her fingertips on the specific nerve centers listed below. The following is an example order of tapping but it can be in any order that feels most comfortable.

TAP ON ALL OF THESE KEY NERVE CENTERS (FINGER TAP THREE OR FOUR TIMES ON EACH NERVE CENTER BEFORE MOVING TO THE NEXT NERVE CENTRE):

> Tap the forehead (the center of your forehead)
> Tap the right temple (right in front of your ear about half way down)
> Tap the right cheek (high on the cheek)
> Tap the chin
> Tap the chest (the chest bone, where your heart would be underneath)
> Tap the front of your left wrist (where you check your pulse, where the hand ends and arm begins)
> Tap the back of your left wrist (where the hand ends and arm begins)
> Tap the left temple (right in front of your ear about half way down)
> Tap the left cheek (high on the cheek)
> Tap the back of your right wrist (where you would check pulse, where the hand ends and arm begins)
> Tap the front of your right wrist (where the hand ends and arm begins)
> Repeat this sequence (for as long as you like)

Janet taps this sequence again and again for a little under a minute. Although very frightened she allows her mind to let go of its formidable resistance to recalling this painful memory. She stops and takes a few calming breaths and takes an emotional severity rating of the memory. She is shocked. The emotional impact has indeed been diminished. Minutes earlier she had rated the memories severity as a ten. She would have given it a twelve if she was able. It was so powerful and frightening she could barely stand it. But now as she gages the emotional severity level, she would rate it as an eight. The memory still made her anxious, very anxious, but it had lost a noticeable amount of bite (bad pun intended).

After a few calming breaths, Janet continues the sequence of tapping. This time for about a minute. She stops and takes another emotional severity rating. It's a six. She almost feels like she is experiencing a miracle. So long has she suffered from this memory and everything it had put her through. As Janet begins tapping again she allows herself to recall the entire timeline, every second, of the event.

JANET RELIVES EVERY SECOND OF THE EVENT TIMELINE

It started when she noticed the neighbor's large brown dog walking unattended across the street. She remembers thinking, "he's going to get lost." Then the dog stops, as if sensing her presence. Seconds later the dog is charging towards her. She looks around for an adult, for someone, and sees no one. Deeply frightened she hopes the dog is just being friendly. Time slows down. The dog snarling and leaping. The pain as sharp canine teeth bite deeply into upraised arm...

While tapping, Janet goes over the event timeline again and again. She continues for several minutes. When she stops and takes an emotional severity rating. It's a three. It hardly feels like anything at all. The goal of EFT is to get the emotional severity rating to one. Where there is no emotional or physiological feeling at all.

JANET INTRODUCES POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS INTO HER EFT

As Janet resumes tapping and reliving the memory she confidently repeats out loud, "It's okay to experience this memory. This memory is in the past and cannot hurt me. I am safe." While tapping she repeats this affirmation again and again (you can use any kind of affirmation you like). When she stops and takes an emotional severity rating, it is a one. The worst memory of her life - the event that had controlled her for decades - feels as calming as a walk in the park (which she can now finally do).

End of exercise.

What has happened? What did this Emotional Freedom Technique application do for Janet?

Old Belief / Understanding / Behavior: (Before EFT): Janet knows she is deathly afraid of dogs. She often has gone blocks out of her way to avoid dogs and social situations where dogs might be present. She knows her behavior is irrational but also feels hopeless against the overwhelming panic that rages throughout her at the mere mention or thought of dogs.

New Belief / Understanding / Behavior: (After EFT): The change in Janet's beliefs and behaviors around dogs is nothing less than extraordinary. She no longer avoids situations where dogs are present and as she continued to use EFT on all the memories, fears and panic attacks, things just kept getting better. Today she sums up her past traumatic event as the result of careless dog-owners and being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Today she owns a Jack Terrier named "Moose" and they are both very happy.

PRACTICING EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE ON PAINFUL EMOTIONS

While tapping it is important to re-experience the negative feeling, memory, belief or situation in as much vivid detail as possible. This means to include your entire mind's senses (the sights, sounds, smells, touch and feelings) in the re-experiencing of the emotion. Imagine the absolute worst the negative feeling, memory, belief or situation makes you feel. Allow all the dark thoughts and fears that stem from the emotion to come forth.

Negative feelings, memories, beliefs or situations that are painful to re-experience or think about are often difficult to tap for the simple reason that the mind doesn't want to "go there!" "Too much pain, no way!" But it is especially important, when we feel these objections that we must "go there." Such memories and feelings are the gold mine of stressors and are meant to be mined deeply for our own mental health and happiness. Traditional therapy can take months, even years, as the therapist spends the lion's share of time getting the client to feel secure and brave enough to "go there" (to go within, where the deep wounds reside). With EFT we can be confident when facing trauma knowing that catharsis is only minutes away.

In tapping on traumatic and negative feelings, memories, beliefs or situations, never forget that the event is not actually happening. You are re-creating it only in your mind. As such, it cannot hurt you, despite the convincing impression that it can. You are in a safe environment. If you do not feel safe right now, go someplace where you feel safe before proceeding.

Very traumatic feelings, memories, beliefs and situations influence our thinking and behavior significantly - and, very rarely, in a positive way. They control how we perceive situations and therefore how we act and react. Without suffering and fear influencing our decision-making we are more able to, objectively and consciously, deal with the negative feeling, memory, belief or situation. We will see with the clarity of an informed observer rather than as a frightened participant. If you take this leap of faith now, you will see, within seconds or minutes that you need not fear or suffer from the negative feeling, memory, belief or situation. It will no longer control you but you will feel in control of it.

How would you be without your fears? Without those emotions that feel so real but serve only to leave you in the many states of suffering? Eliminate suffering and fear and you eliminate the corrupted thinking that is blocking your happiness.

SOME IMPORTANT CLARIFICATIONS WHEN PRACTICING EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE

There are two important clarifications regarding tapping. The first is to always remain attentive (self-aware) to tapping only negative feelings, memories, beliefs or situations. The mind has a habit of jumping from thought to thought quickly. Often our minds can jump from a negative state of suffering to a positive state of happiness without warning. When you observe this happening, stop tapping immediately! Take a few calming breaths and generally distract yourself before proceeding. For obvious reasons you do not want to tap towards the diminishing or removal of positive, emotional states.

Positive feelings, memories, beliefs or situations are those emotions that you know do not cause yourself or others to suffer. Every other kind of emotion can be considered, "ready to go!"

The second important clarification is to again remain attentive (self-aware) and to recognize the difference between a reasonable belief of danger and an unreasonable belief of danger. Tapping away our fear of any feeling, memory, belief or situation may leave your rational instincts more capable of judging the situation but it does not mean real danger no longer exists. To a large degree we are taking conscious control of your fight or flight instincts. Take this responsibility very seriously!

For example, tapping combined with misguided pride may keep you from handing your wallet or purse over to an armed thug, but by resisting you may increase the odds of the thug harming you. Your first priority is to protect your body at all costs. Having no fear combined with misguided pride or negligent thinking may jeopardize your body. But having sensible fear and sensible instincts means you exit the situation safely first, followed by the appropriate actions. In any situation, ALWAYS be aware of what you are doing! Do not get lazy, arrogant or overconfident!

Emotional Freedom Technique used in relation with Rapid Enlightenment is an idea that can be taken by anyone for any purpose. Feel free to share, change or build on the idea of Rapid Enlightenment without any obligation or consideration of the author. Rapid Enlightenment can be used in many, many areas pertaining to mental and physical health, happiness, love and purpose. Peace and Love.

Emotional Freedom Technique - Tapping - How Does It Work?

EFT or Tapping as it is more commonly known, is used to help us to eliminate negative beliefs about our selves and our lives. We have many deep beliefs hidden away in our subconscious mind and they can sabotage all of our efforts! So, Tapping is used to uncover these hidden beliefs for us to be free of pain and negativity.

How Does It Actually Work?

We are energy, and if we have a damaging belief somewhere in our psyche, it will form a block within our energy system. By tapping along meridian points on the body we are able to clear the block and balance our energy so bringing our whole being back into harmony! Much like Acupuncture!

I could go on and tell you how un-dealt with blocks not only wreck our efforts they actually evolve into dis-ease! But we will save that for another day, you don't need to know this, right now you just need to know that this works and will help you to achieve whatever you want to!

What Are These Damaging Beliefs?

Imagine if when you were a child you were bitten by a dog because you ran up behind it or something, you would obviously have been frightened, but you learned to be wary of how to approach dog's right? You learnt the lesson and you know what or what not to do, but still as an adult you may have a fear of dog's. This is an irrational fear! It is your sub-conscious mind protecting you because it still has the memory in its bank! This is a negative pattern, we do not need the memory or the pattern anymore, we are adults and we know not to approach the dog in the wrong way! This old memory can affect our life in a negative way.

More Serious!

Now if we have a more serious memory, it can ruin our life completely even though we know we have learnt the lesson, maybe something has developed a serious phobia for us, like being in the company of others? It is irrational thinking but it ruins lives!

This is where tapping gets amazing, to see someone break free of these fears and blocks is truly wonderful!

We All Have Some Negative Stuff!

The negative stuff just belongs to a set of beliefs that no longer serve us, they just hold us back from creating the life that we want to live.

We can just Tap these old beliefs away and be free! Can you imagine just being able to Tap away that annoying fear, or the nervous tremble in your voice when you need to speak confidently? It is truly powerful stuff!

A Belief Is Just A Thought!

If I was to tell you that I live in a tent, you would accept and believe that, but then if I was to tell you that I was joking, I live in a mansion really, you would accept that too. See how easy it is to change the thought? Our mind receives information, accepts it and stores it, but it is that - easy to change.

Emotion.

This is the difference, when there is the emotion of physical pain attached to the information this is when the serious problems arise. When emotion is attached to the belief or the thought, it can become life destroying!

Tapping uncovers all of our beliefs thoughts and emotions so that we are able to re-program our-self for success!

Tapping Balances The Nervous System.

While Tapping we say the belief out loud and this will bring up any corresponding emotion in the nervous system. Then we tap the various pressure points to reset the system. Each point is the end of a nerve channel in the body. Tapping sends a shockwave down that channel removing any blockages.

We cannot know which nerve channel is holding a particular emotion, so we just Tap them all.

When the negative emotion is gone, our mind is no longer attached to the belief. So now our mind can re-program. We let go of that which we don't need.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) for Health

EFT

EFT was founded by Gary Craig, in America, drawing on work from Roger Callahan, and influenced by John Diamond and George Goodheart. Craig's teachings have spread across the world, both by individuals who travelled to his workshops in America, and equally through 12 sets of DVDs, which recorded minute by minute the workshops he gave. Latterly he offered an on-line qualification, rigorous in its attention to detail. Through these means EFT is offered by various practitioners in London.

EFT is a psychological version of acupuncture without the needles. Acupuncture points are tapped with your fingertips, whilst focussing on the issue or symptom to be resolved, this serves to rebalance your energy and resolve the physical or emotional problem.

Although unbelievably simple its results can be profound for both physical or emotional issues. The process is easy to memorise and is portable, so once learned, you can do it for yourself, anywhere.

Good results have been achieved with EFT for arthritis, EFT for pain, EFT for weight loss, EFT for anxiety. I find good most patients see a tangible difference in their symptoms after treatment with EFT, between the beginning of treatment, to the end of a treatment. Generally this is gauged by the patient giving a severity out of ten, for the pain (or the condition), and asking them how it has changed after treatment; commonly it goes from a high number to zero.

EFT can and will profoundly change your world, if you want it to. It allows freedom from pain, relief from symptoms, but more, it allows you to rise above hidden hurdles that keep you from performing to your capacity.

I am struck in my clinic the correlation between a patients symptoms, and negative emotions. For example, a patient with chronic knee pain, cried out "I miss the dogs". He had left 3 dogs in Italy, where he had lived before he return to London. We worked through the emotional issues entwined in that, and the knee pain disappeared!

As an acupuncturist, I have never seen such a correlation between specific emotions and specific symptoms. It seems far fetched for most of us. However, it works!

However, its application is far wider than physical symptoms. It is equally effective for overcoming limiting beliefs regarding earning potential, improving your golf score, addictions; freedom from phobias and PTSD.

Simply, it allows us to go about our lives more effectively.

Fast and Easy Weight Loss Naturally With EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)

We all know what to do to lose weight. If only we could eat right and exercise more, the pounds would melt off. But know-how and will-power will never be enough. If you want to reach your ideal weight permanently, you must address the mental aspect; the least talked about topic for weight loss! This is why 95% of dieters return back to their original weight. But you don't have to be one of them.

Do you think there is a shortage of diet pills, programs, or how-to books promising the miracle cure? I didn't think so. I cringe at the commercials for appetite suppressant, fat burning thermogenic pills, and all the other garbage that tricks desperate people who have tried sheer will-power and thought that there was something wrong with them because they couldn't lose weight on their own. These companies prey on discouraged but overweight people because they know that in a moment of despair, you will try anything that give you hope to one day fit back into the skinny jeans you once fit into.

The problem with pills, supplements, and even programs, is that the mental aspect of weight loss is never addressed. They suggest that the answer lies outside of you. Their answer lies in a bottle. That is not where permanent change occurs. The real answer is within you, and has been there all along.

Lasting change happens from the inside out. Deep inside beyond your conscious thoughts; beyond your ability to control your actions, and beyond your will-power. Will power is no competition for your subconscious mind. If you can illicit the help of your powerful subconscious mind, you will find weight loss become effortless.

If you have an unhealthy relationship with food, there is a reason. And it's not because the food tastes so good! (Even though we'd like to think that!) The reason why food consumes your thoughts and makes you feel out of control is because you have an emotional trigger that has programmed you to reach for food.

Eliminate the trigger, eliminate your food addiction.

EFT (emotional freedom technique) is the fastest and easiest technique that I've found for losing weight quickly. It doesn't require any fancy pills, definitely no needles, and best of all- you can do it for free, by yourself. All it takes is a little self-education and self-discovery to find out what drives you to want to eat.

The science behind EFT acknowledges that any emotion is caused by a disruption in the energy system. These negative emotions get lodged and stuck in our energy system and resurface anytime we have a similar experience. With EFT, you are able to tap into the energy system by tapping on the meridian points on your body and remove the blocks, freeing yourself from the emotions of the past.

Let's use stress for example. When I'm stressed, one of my trigger foods is a DQ Blizzard. I will get in my car and drive to the nearest Dairy Queen and not even realize what I'm doing until I'm placing my order. There is comfort in that creamy and cool ice cream that makes me feel calm while I enjoy my treat.

But since ice cream is not a lasting solution to my stress, I immediately feel the stress level increase after I'm done eating. But this time the stress has a heavy layer of guilt on top of it from eating the entire blizzard I promised myself I would only eat half of.

Instead of heading for DQ, I can tap on my meridian points using EFT and eliminate the craving all together.

Here's how I would do it:

Tapping on the side of your hand (karate chop point), say 3 times:

Even though I have this craving for a blizzard because I'm stressed right now, I choose to feel peaceful

Even though I'm stressed and I want to make it go away with a blizzard, I choose to feel calm right now

Even though a blizzard would make my stress go away, I choose to accept this present moment

And then tapping on the meridian points (gently tap 5-7 times and repeat the phrase):

inside of the eye: this crazy craving for a blizzard

side of eye: I want a yummy blizzard right now

under the eye: a blizzard would make me feel better, and I really want to feel better right now

under the nose: I really want a blizzard

on the chin: I crave the creaminess of that blizzard

on the collarbone: a cold, sweet blizzard

on top of the head: I can almost taste it, and I want it now!

Just one round can immediately bring down the craving if you are specific enough. If it comes down just a little bit, but not all the way, try to do another round. Keep tapping until the craving goes away.

Once you master this technique, you will be able to make healthy choices in the present moment instead of allowing the food to control you.

Getting to the Core Issue: EFT for Emotional Effects of Accidents

You might think it's obvious what the core issue is when you're working on healing pain from an accident-it's the accident! However, for two reasons, it may not be all that obvious. One is that sometimes PTSD from accidents triggers PTSD from previous emotional trauma. Another is that, although the accident might indeed be the core issue, it's important to get really detailed and specific when working with the accident.

What Causes Accident PTSD

Almost anyone who goes through an accident or any high speed injury, there are a number of parts to it: there are sudden sights, sounds, body reactions, emotions, smells, etc. Most of them happen so fast that we can't assimilate them. Our reactions start but don't have a chance to complete. All of that stays in our nervous system and our body. That's what we know as PTSD-all these stuck, incomplete reactions and all this emotional pain and physical pain.

EFT With Accident PTSD

To heal this kind of PTSD with EFT Tapping (or with any method), it's important to divide the accident into emotional parts. If the intensity of our emotional pain around it is so high that we get really agitated or even spacy, dizzy or floaty thinking about it, we first need to do some EFT Tapping in general without even thinking about any of the details-to lower the intensity. After that, pick out the most intense parts, notice what emotion(s) are attached to each part, and tap on the emotions. For instance, if the sound of breaking glass brings up fear, specifically tap on that sound and the fear around it. Then go through each part of the accident that brings up a spike of intensity, always asking what about that part brings up the intensity and what emotion it brings up, and EFT Tapping on both.

Accidents Can Trigger Past Traumatic Stress

Sometimes, when I'm working with clients on emotional pain and/or physical pain after an accident, there's a certain amount of relief, but it doesn't go all the way. Often this is because their unconscious emotional/physical reactions during the accident triggered PTSD from a previous trauma. One client, for instance, felt he was going to die during an accident and he had the floaty, spacy feeling that can accompany that. This triggered a time in his life where he was very depressed and wanted to die. We had to work on the earlier time in order to completely heal the accident PTSD.

EFT Tapping for All Kinds of Emotional Pain Issues

EFT is very effective for healing emotional pain and often physical pain caused by accidents. I've had a number of clients whose PTSD symptoms are gone after three to six sessions. EFT is also very effective in alleviating pain due all kinds of stressful and traumatic experiences.

Modern Energy Therapies - Emotional Freedom Technique

Thought is one of the biggest components of disease - Thought is also energy...

Strangely enough, our whole body system and the way it works is fundamentally based on energy which is the most fundamental and essential ground of our being. EFT therapy is based on energy rebalancing, a fundamental approach of all energy medicine. All of our biological processes have a living, pulsating, vibrant, energetic foundation and are affected by the thoughts that we think and beliefs we hold. We can now even measure our own energy fields with modern scientific instruments these days which validates its existence.

In fact the existence of the ancient acupuncture energy meridians, once mapped out by Chinese physicians thousands of years ago has now been verified by such testing. This is exciting, Why? because it gives us the opportunity of addressing all dis-ease, illness, pain and emotional disturbances, whether thought-induced or as a result of physical injury, using energy methods, such as eft tapping therapy, that are practical, easy, quick and essentially non-invasive.

Energy Medicine is Here to Stay

Energy medicine is truly the medicine of the future and signs of its emergence as a powerful cure-all have already begun. Emotional freedom tapping and other energy therapies can be used to gain optimal health and well-being, by getting to the root of any problem, rather than just focusing on the traditional approach of ongoing symptom management. It offers the promise of really empowering each and every one of us with effective self-help methods for our own self-care with tools and techniques that can be carried out in the comfort of our own homes.

It is a powerful tool for integrating all aspects of ourselves, our minds, bodies and spirit.

We now have at our disposal, with EFT techniques, Reiki, Acupuncture, Reflexology, the Emotion Code work and other newly emerging energy modalities, the means to clear away all of the energy blockages that until now have been preventing us from radiating out and sharing our true and wonderful inner light with the world. And the beauty of this new way of healing is that, until it comes into its own amongst medical circles, it can still be safely used alongside conventional treatments without any dangerous side effects whatsoever.

It heralds a new way of taking charge of your health

Since everything in the universe is fundamentally made of energy, change our energy vibrations and we literally change our world, both inside and out. I believe there will come a time in the not too distant future when drugs and surgery will end up being only a last resort and when working with a patient or client energy field, to release trapped energies will be the first line of treatment for any diagnosed illness. Fitness will be much more about doing things to keep our energies vibrating well and from becoming blocked so that the energy channels are flowing nicely in tune with optimal health and a positive outlook.

You can learn to use energy medicine with practical hands-on techniques to clear and enhance the energies in your body, support your natural ability to heal, release stress and raise your feeling good vibrations. EFT tapping is one of the most popular of the energy therapies around today. It is quick to learn, easy and quick to apply and is considered to be about 80-99 per cent effective, mainly depending upon the skill of the practitioner or the one doing it. It is something you can learn to do by yourself and apply at home whenever the need arises.

The Basics on How to Overcome Emotional Pain

We suffer from emotional pain for certain reasons. It is the result of painful experiences we encounter such as the death or loss of a loved one. It arises from woefulness or depression, disappointment, guilt, fear, anxiety and tends to become worse when traumatic events in the past are recapitulated.

A lot of people had experienced psychological trauma during their childhood due to such events like loss of parent/s, abandonment, abuse and neglect. Though these happened years ago, the pain still remains in the person who had experienced such problems. And in this case, the pain stays longer. Emotional pain during adulthood may be resulted by retrenchment or loss of employment, being a victim or a witness of a crime, end of a relationship, loss of a loved one, and abuse.

Generally, when intense trauma is experienced, the person is haunted by nightmares and recurring thoughts. Some who undergo from emotional pain experience difficulty in ceasing the memories of hurts and sorrows. They find it hard to set the pain free and often don't they realize that they are in a cycle of guilt and punishment.

Emotional pain is a counterpart for depression. People who experience depression are drowned with the feeling of hopelessness. Some don't have the strength to face the pain that is why they just hide it by denial or pretending that they are happy even they are not. Though they are sometimes obvious, these people actually need help to cope up.

It is not that easy to deal with your emotions as well as letting the pain go. But don't be afraid to show what you really feel. This can make you feel relieved and better. There are ways to overcome your emotional pain so don't let the pain defeat you.

1. Cry. Crying doesn't mean you're weak, it means you are brave enough to show your emotions. Let your tears burst. That's healthy. It cleanses the eyes and makes you feel better.

2. Talk to someone who understands you. Don't be afraid to tell what you want and just show who you are and what you feel. Talk to someone you trust and comfortable to talk to. They may be your friends, family or lover.

3. Entertain yourself. Don't just lie down or sit at one corner. Go out and let all your pain be erased even for a while. Watch a movie, eat all you can, try some sports and the like. If you find yourself enjoying, that will help you in coping through your emotional pain.

4. Keep a diary. Treat your diary as your best friend. Though it doesn't reply, it still helps in letting you express your emotions.

5. Pray. Let Him give you the strength and the peace of mind.

If these can't help, you can try these treatments or therapies.

- Spiritual therapy
- Meditation
- Counseling and psychotherapy
- Cognitive behavioral therapy

The Emotional Freedom Technique - What Can I Use It For?

Today I was asked, " What can I use the Emotional Freedom Technique for?" You Know what? Why not try it for every situation you have to deal with!

The Emotional Freedom Technique

So what can we use it for? More to the point, show me something that we cannot use it for! Seriously I think most people are just struggling with the simplicity of this technique, they think it looks silly and cannot see it working, it seems too quick. All I can say is who cares if it looks silly, it does work! Don't think too much about it just give it a go, and try it on everything!

Two days ago, I had to make a phone call that I was little nervous about, so I used EFT, I told my self I did not need to be nervous, and it worked, no nerves! Honestly sometimes I wish it was a little more difficult then maybe we would accept it more easily. You know when we are trying to learn something that is really difficult, we press on and push ourselves, but when we don't have to try that hard it is almost as if it is not worth it. Not everyone believes in ancient healing systems I know, but most would think if they are paying a fee for say, acupuncture, then they would expect some sort of result, but because we can do this ourselves we create doubt.

How the Emotional Freedom Technique works.

Basically we are having a chat with our subconscious mind, we make a statement while the tapping of the pressure points, we are first addressing our problem, and then we are saying that we accept it, something like this; "although I have this problem, (you state your problem) I completely and deeply accept myself ". By admitting and accepting, we are bringing the problem and the acceptance into the present time. For us to make permanent changes we must bring the problem out into the open and address it now, accept that it is difficult for us.

All of our beliefs both negative and positive, are stored into our subconscious mind, therefore we are tapping into our stored memory, giving it a nudge, we do not want this old belief anymore, we want to bring the problem forward into the conscious mind where we are able delete it.

Replace the negative with positive.

Once we have deleted it, then we replace it with positive beliefs about the situation, maybe we could say, "I am grateful now that I am free of this old belief, I have released it and i am able to move forward".

Now If we are just stressed and worried over something, we just 'EFT' it! As we tap we relax and ease the stress, we are then able to see our situation more clearly, and find a solution.

Why am I so tired?

This is another question I received from the same lady, she said that during the session she felt exhausted, she wanted to yawn all the time and had great big sighs! This is simply your body just releasing tension and negative energy, it is a good sign, so yawn and sigh away! Remember this is energy work, it is important to rest afterwards, take a glass of water, (help your body to release toxins) and relax a while, let the energy keep doing its job and let your body rest, it has worked hard!

Learn this technique, to free yourself easily of your old negative patterns that are no longer serving you!

Thoughts, Feelings and Emotions - Manage Stressful Situations and Gain Emotional Freedom Today

Are you feeling overwhelmed by stressful situations? Do you feel there too much going on in your head? This article will help you tell the difference between your thoughts, feelings and emotions, and set you on the path to personal peace.

Thoughts are located in the brain and our what make up our 'internal dialogue'.

We are conscious of our thoughts and despite what many people believe we do have control over them. However, many people get into patterns of thinking, which become subconscious over time, it's only when they become aware of these patterns that they realize how much they are affecting them.

Emotions are much more physical in nature. They are believed to be situated in the limbic system of the brain - something that all mammals share.

We can think of emotions as very primitive evolutionary mechanisms that we share with animals. Experiences such as anger, sadness or fear originate from the body as a primordial response to a physical situation.

We can consider feelings as how we actually experience emotions. We might 'feel' fear as a tightening in the stomach, or anger as a hot sensation in the head. Heartache has it's name because of the literal ache around our heart we experience when we are deep in grief or loss.

One of the problems in managing stress is that sometimes our emotions can actually be caused by thoughts rather than physical situations. Psychologists call these 'secondary emotions'. When we think of a scary situation we become scared. What stated off as a thought quickly becomes a physical reaction in the body.

One of the major tricks in learning to deal with stressful situations is to learn to separate thoughts, feelings and emotions.

The next time you are stressed or feel out of control, go into what you feel. Close your eyes and ask yourself, where am I experiencing this?

If your experience is mainly a sensation in the body, you are probably dealing with an emotion. Explore it, go into the feeling and experience how it feels in your body. You may often find that just by bringing awareness to the feeling it will dissipate.

If your experience is mainly in the head - then you are dealing with a thought. In this case you need to break the pattern of thinking that is causing you distress. There are many tools to do this, but often just becoming aware of what is going on in the present moment will do the trick.

But careful, you may be dealing with a secondary emotion - an emotion caused by a thought, not a real situation. Although you may feel this in the body, you will need to focus on stopping the thought in your head rather than the exploring the physical sensations of the experience.

You can tell the difference between primary and secondary emotions by watching what happens when you stop the thought. If the physical feelings resolve then you are most likely dealing with a secondary emotion. If they remain then the emotion is probably primary in nature.

Emotional Freedom Technique can help you deal with a wide range of emotional problems including depression, anxiety, confidence issues, self esteem problems and much much more.
